Gallium is element 31, a post-transition of the p block, in group 13, period 4. Its ground-state configuration is [Ar] 3d10 4s2 4p1, and it usually shows the oxidation states 0, 1, 2, 3.
It was discovered in 1875, by Lecoq de Boisbaudran.
Name origin: Gallia, the Latin name for France.
