Polonium is element 84, a metalloid of the p block, in group 16, period 6. Its ground-state configuration is [Xe] 4f14 5d10 6s2 6p4, and it usually shows the oxidation states 0, 2, 4.
It was discovered in 1898, by Curie (Marie and Pierre).
Name origin: Polonia, the New Latin name for Poland.
