Rubidium is element 37, an alkali metal of the s block, in group 1, period 5. Its ground-state configuration is [Kr] 5s1, and it usually shows the oxidation states 0, 1.
It was discovered in 1861, by Bunsen etKirchhoff.
Name origin: the Latin rubidus, 'deep red'.
