Radon is element 86, a noble gas of the p block, in group 18, period 6. Its ground-state configuration is [Xe] 4f14 5d10 6s2 6p6, and it usually shows the oxidation states 0.
It was discovered in 1900, by Dorn.
Name origin: From radium, as it was first detected as an emission from radium during radioactive decay.
