Tellurium is element 52, a metalloid of the p block, in group 16, period 5. Its ground-state configuration is [Kr] 4d10 5s2 5p4, and it usually shows the oxidation states -2, 0, 2, 4, 6.
It was discovered in 1782, by von Reichenstein.
Name origin: Latin tellus, 'earth'.
