Xenon is element 54, a noble gas of the p block, in group 18, period 5. Its ground-state configuration is [Kr] 4d10 5s2 5p6, and it usually shows the oxidation states 0.
It was discovered in 1898, by Ramsay and Travers.
Name origin: the Greek xenos, 'strange'.
